Overview
You can ask Swell to delete your account, export your personal data, or correct information we hold about you. There is no charge for these requests and you do not need a Swell subscription to submit one.
If your subscription is active, cancel it through the App Store or Google Play settings — payment information lives there, not with Swell.
Why deletion is request-based
Swell operates as a HIPAA-covered Business Associate and signs Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with the organizations that offer Swell to their members. Because the data in your account may include Protected Health Information (PHI), HIPAA and our BAA obligations require us to:
- Verify the identity of the person submitting a deletion request before any data is destroyed.
- Coordinate with the relevant covered entity (your employer or health plan, if applicable) about retention obligations they may have.
- Maintain an auditable record of the request and how it was fulfilled.
For these reasons we don't expose a one-tap “delete account” button inside the app. Every deletion is processed through this verified request workflow so we can meet our regulatory and contractual commitments while still honoring your right to have your data removed.
Request by email
Email us and we'll process your request manually. Use the button below to open a pre-filled message, or send a new email to privacy@getswell.app from the address associated with your account.
Please include in your message:
- The email address you used to sign up for Swell.
- Whether you want your account deleted, your data exported, or information corrected.
- Any other details that will help us locate your account.
We may ask you to verify ownership of the account before processing the request — usually by replying from the registered email address.
What gets deleted
When we delete your account, we delete:
- Your profile and login credentials
- Your conversations and messages with Swell
- Your progress, goals, and preferences within the app
- Usage and engagement data tied to your account
What we may retain
We may keep a limited amount of information when we are legally required to, or when it is necessary for the safety and integrity of the service. This can include:
- Records needed to comply with tax, accounting, or other legal obligations
- De-identified, aggregated analytics that cannot be linked back to you
- Information related to fraud prevention or abuse investigations
Payment information is held by Apple or Google, not Swell, so we cannot delete it on your behalf — manage that through your App Store or Google Play account.
How long it takes
We confirm receipt of email requests within a few business days and complete most deletions within 30 days. Backups are rotated on a regular schedule and any residual copies are removed in the normal course of that rotation.
Other data requests
You can use the same email address to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, or opt out of any non-essential processing. See our Privacy Policy for the full list of rights available to you.
